Why Exercise? Exercise is important to your overall happiness and quality of life. And that’s why exercise is more than just a good idea.

Big, small, fat, skinny, young and old alike, being physically active will help you continue to do the things you enjoy. It will help you stay independent. You have over 600 different muscles and they need attention too.

And like everything in life, if something is worth having, it’ll take effort. The bigger the effort, the sweeter the reward. The bigger the reward, the more we are likely to keep doing it. But, the mind rules so you must make exercise a habit by repeating it often enough to become a habit. If you are like most people, repeat something about 30 days and you are well on your way to making it a habit. Why not make it a worthwhile one.

Why Exercise? Because of Long Term Health Benefits

Regular physical activity over long periods of time can produce long-term health benefits. That’s why health experts say that adults should be active every day to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

In addition, regular exercise and physical activity can reduce the risk of developing some diseases and disabilities that can develop over time. In some cases, exercise is an effective treatment for many chronic conditions. For example, studies show that people with arthritis, heart disease or diabetes benefit from regular exercise.

Exercise also helps people with high blood pressure, balance problems or difficulty walking.

And, even better – there are many ways to be physically active, there’s almost no limit. You can be active in short spurts throughout the day, or if you like a schedule in your life, set aside specific times on specific days of the week.

Many physical activities – such as brisk walking, raking leaves or taking the stairs – are free or low-cost and don’t require special equipment. You don’t have to join a gym to exercise.

Be creative and check out an exercise video from your local library or setup a fitness center in your home. Be sure to use it though, otherwise it may just collect dust or worse, the clothes you wore today.
