What are the right Exercise Terms?
Once in a while someone comes up with a new term for things we know and do every day. They create a new word that is better and share it with their friends. If it’s likeable, they share it and so on and so on… Then we all start to use the new term instead of the one we knew so well, and we add it to our fitness and exercise terms.
Why? Well, because change is good. Good as long as it takes us in the right direction – improving communication so things are less confusing. This is helpful when using fitness terms because there is so much to try to focus on, remember and apply to your daily life.
So, here’s some examples for physical fitness and well-being… Please take moment and send us your thoughts about fitness words you use that may not (yet) be in the mainstream, words you grew up with that changed, or words you aren’t sure of their meaning.
• Cardio – Aerobic Exercises or any exercises that elevates your heart rate.
• Core – I’ve heard these are the muscles between the knees and the shoulders. They generally mean all the muscles of the torso, including the oblique’s (muscles along the side of your abdomen).
• Wellness – fitness but more of an overall well-being. This considers the whole mind/body, activity and nutrition and in general, your wellness as a person.
